Have you looked at your web soil survey map?

Did you know that every fall the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) updates its data in Web Soil Survey? Web Soil Survey is an online tool that provides interactive soil maps and data for more than 95 percent of the nation’s counties. It’s the single authoritative source of soil survey information used by various local, state, federal and non-governmental organizations nationwide.

The soils team just wrapped up this year’s refresh. Changes to the soils information vary from year to year.

To search for soil data in your location, visit Web Soil Survey at: http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov.

Please note that those of you who routinely download soil survey data from Web Soil Survey for use in ArcGIS, you may need to check the settings in your spatial layer and database to make sure you have the most up-to-date information from Web Soil Survey.

For questions about Web Soil Survey or other soil-related issues, please contact Cory Owens, NRCS Oregon state soil scientist, at Cory.Owens@or.usda.gov or 503-414-3261.
