Good Fruit Grower magazine is looking for a journalist who is fluent in Spanish and English to serve as the lead writer and curator of its new Spanish-language web site.
The bilingual journalist will be the first new hire in a significant expansion of Good Fruit Grower’s Spanish-language content. Based in Yakima, Washington, the position begins after Sept. 1, subject to final grant approval. The fellowship runs nine months, with the potential for renewal for a second nine-month stint.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a journalist to help write a new chapter in the magazine’s history and work closely with an experienced editorial team. This person will help bring new content for an underserved audience in the community of tree fruit and wine grape growers.
This position calls for an energetic self-starter committed to accuracy and to the magazine’s mission: to educate growers. The bilingual journalist will post content on a web site and on social media, write articles, assist with the review of articles translated from English to Spanish to ensure accuracy, attend editorial planning meetings, attend industry events and conduct interviews for text and video production, plus other duties as assigned. Some travel within central Washington will be required.

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, agriculture or other relevant field.
Fluency in Spanish and English, sufficient to meet high journalism standards in either language.
Excellent writing and editing skills, in both Spanish and English.
Familiarity and comfort with integration of content created for print and digital platforms.
Proven ability to juggle deadlines and work as part of a team.
Experience writing for and communicating to a Spanish-speaking audience.
Prior experience working for a comparable publication.
Knowledge of the fruit industry.
Still and video photography skills.
Experience editing video.
Experience writing in AP style.
Knowledge of content management systems.
