The first capture of western cherry fruit fly occurred at the OSU-MCAREC on May 20, 2018. This is one day later than the model predicted. We continue to experience difficulties with weather stations in The Dalles and Moiser areas. Traps in unmanaged trees in The Dallesport area will be monitored. Lynn Long suggested that first emergence tends to occur when cherries reach straw color. At this point they are receptive to WCFF.
Emergence of the WCFF begins at 860 degree days in Hood River county, 990 degree days in The Dalles area, and 925 degree days in Mosier.
Western cherry fruit fly control:
- Apply cover spray within 7 days of emergence
- Apply sprays and replace baits at 7 day intervals
- Re-apply sprays as soon as possible after significant rain.
