Sawflies

Sawflies are related to bees and wasps (Order Hymenoptera). They are medium to large insects with two pairs of wings. The name sawfly comes from the saw-like ovipositor that the female uses to cut slits in the leaf and deposit its eggs. The larvae of some species, such as the California pear sawfly, resemble caterpillars (larvae of Lepidoptera), while others, such as the pear sawfly, look like slugs.
