With night-time lows in the 20s next week a few growers are asking about cherry bud hardiness at this time of the year. Dr David Gibeaut, Oregon State University has been measuring bud hardiness and is in the process of creating a model which will be available on Ag Weathernet. According to Gibeaut, cherry cultivars assessed this week for freeze-tolerance (October 28, 2019) at OSU-MCAREC in Hood River, OR, are near full freeze-acclimation and can withstand temperatures down to approximately 15F with little or no damage. Project funded by Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission.
