WSU Extension Specialist Karina Gallardo has recently revised the Tree Fruit Extension Economics website. We have also updated the Economics page on our Tree Fruit website to reflect those changes. The site contains all of her published research on tree fruit (like the optimal licensing/royalty for new varieties, the precision agriculture update, cost of ignoring little cherry disease, and more) in easy to read 1-page summaries. The site also includes her presentations in both English and Spanish.
New publications are also being added to the website. WSU 2019 Honeycrisp Cost of Production and Packing is now available here. This is the first in a series of five studies that will also include Gala, Fuji, Cripps Pink, and Granny Smith. These studies reflect the 2019 challenging situation pre-COVID19. The full listing of Enterprise Budgets can be found at this address: http://ses.wsu.edu/enterprise_budgets/
Additionally, with support from the Washington Tree Fruit Association, the Northwest Horticultural Council and apple orchard and packinghouse operations, Karina is in the process of putting together a series of factsheets on COVID-19 impact on the Washington Tree Fruit Industry. The factsheets will be updated monthly and initially will include trends of weekly domestic shipping volumes, FOB (free on board) prices, and export shipment volumes. As data becomes available further economic analyses will be conducted. The first fact sheet COVID-19 and the Washington Apple Industry is available now here.
