WSU Decision Aid System Update September 2026

The DAS team has been awarded a new grant from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture Program on Data Science for Food and Agricultural Systems. This grant, starting in 2027, will be used to improve the integration of monitoring data for codling moth with phenology models on DAS. In Washington, we will focus on validating the codling moth phenology model using trap catch data from both manual and automated traps.

Research and Extension scientists at WSU have noticed unusually high codling moth activity this summer, and there have been some discrepancies between capture of 2nd generation moths and predicted emergence. After this season it is clear the codling moth model on DAS needs to be updated for more accurate predictions. To improve the codling moth model we need to collaborate with farmers and consultants that are willing to share their trap catch data.

If you are willing to share your previous years’ codling moth trapping data with DAS to update the model and make it more relevant for today’s conditions, please contact Liesl Oeller (elisabeth.oeller@wsu.edu), the DAS coordinator, and Dave Crowder (dcrowder@wsu.edu), the DAS director.
