Introducing a New Faculty Member

Martin Churuvija is the new Assistant Professor in Smart Machine and Robotics Systems Engineering in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering at WSU. His research will focus on developing AI-enabled autonomous tree fruit production systems, emphasizing automation and robotic technologies to increase the efficiency of orchard operations, including harvesting, pruning, and thinning. Martin brings 15 years of experience developing mechatronic systems for various crops through private, partnership-driven projects and is also a recent graduate of the department, where he earned his PhD in Biological and Agricultural Engineering and developed a robotic system for automated pruning of planar-canopy apple trees.
