The WTFRC and WSU Extension have scheduled field days across the region to demonstrate WA 38 fruit sampling and starch analysis using the new WA 38 starch scale. If you are going to harvest a crop this year, plan to attend one of the field days. We need to harvest at optimum time to ensure that post-harvest handlers and retail partners can deliver the highly anticipated excellent eating experience.
We are getting a lot of questions about the slow starch movement. WA 38 converts starch very slowly and uniformly during maturation on the tree allowing for a relatively long harvest window. Also, the reaction time for the iodine solution for WA 38 is significantly longer than other varieties.
Field Day locations, dates and times can be found on our Events Calendar
We might add a few more locations so check back or find updates on Facebook.
Events are free and no registration is required
We encourage you to bring fruit samples from your block to the field day for on-site starch analysis.
