Introducing Thiago Campbell, Postharvest Pathology and Physiology – Tree Fruit Extension Educator

We are excited to welcome Thiago Campbell to the Tree Fruit Team as the new Postharvest Pathology and Physiology—Tree Fruit Extension Educator. Thiago will work with researchers and industry members focusing on apples, pears, and cherries to combat the major postharvest issues and develop and deliver educational programs.

Thiago will work with a network of university researchers, industry members, and industry stakeholders to deliver educational programs, consultations, and resources on postharvest issues in tree fruit. Duties include identifying key issues and significant knowledge gaps, developing curriculum, and evaluating current programs. Under the direction of WSU faculty mentors and industry stakeholders, this position ensures the most up-to-date information on key postharvest issues is being disseminated to industry members, while research is focused on the most important issues.

Thiago comes to us from Washington State University with a Ph.D. in Horticulture, where he focused on resource allocation impact on biennial bearing in apples and agronomic strategies to mitigate biennial bearing. He also obtained his Master’s in Horticulture from The Pennsylvania State University, where he focused on root pruning and mechanical hedging to establish tree walls in Mid-Atlantic apple orchards. His family operates a small-scale mango orchard in Homestead, Florida, focused on direct-to-consumer sales.
