Apple Grower Participation Needed for LCA Survey

The apple life cycle assessment (LCA) needs more growers to complete the orchard data survey to ensure the success of the project for the entire Pacific Northwest apple industry. The number of participants is currently below the necessary threshold. The Washington State Tree Fruit Association, Northwest Horticultural Council, and Washington State University encourage growers to complete the LCA apple grower data survey, an essential part of the environmental baseline study funded by the Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission.

The study will allow the Pacific Northwest apple industry to take charge of its own environmental data by developing a scientifically defensible benchmark for apple production specific to practices and conditions in our growing region. The research team needs growers’ input to build the environmental model of apple production.
